WMBA FOUNDATION UPDATE - APRIL 2005

FOUNDATION RECEIVES $25,000 FROM SPORT LEGACY FUND
The WMBA Foundation is pleased to announce that it has received a $25,000 grant from the Sport Manitoba based ‘Sport Legacy Trust Fund’ towards the building of its first outdoor basketball court at Garden City Community Centre. This grant moves the project even closer to becoming a reality later this summer! The WMBA would like to thank the Sport Legacy Fund for the support!

The WMBA Foundation is the charitable arm of the Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association. Its mandate is to create outdoor basketball courts through the city and provide scholarships & funding for children to continue their basketball and educational pursuits.

WMBA FOUNDATION UPDATE - JANUARY 2005

The Winnipeg Minor Basketball Foundation Inc. has been incorporated and is presently seeking charitable foundation status with Revenue Canada. The Foundation is presently involved in two areas. At the annual general meeting of the WMBA, the Foundation will again be awarding two scholarships to a male and female athlete or volunteer from our league graduating from high schools who have been exemplary representatives of the WMBA. Watch shortly for further details but criteria for selection are itemized here.

Also, the Foundation is finalizing plans to build an outdoor basketball court at Garden City Community Centre. Fifty dollars from each team who has participated in the league since the start of the 2003-2004 season has been earmarked to the creation of these courts. To date, we have accumulated $30,000 towards our total goal of $85,000 relating to the first court so we are still short $55,000. This court is the first of its kind in Winnipeg and its example will open up opportunities for us to build four other courts throughout the City. We would like to begin building in the spring and we could really use your help. If you can donate services or funding to assist, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact Mike Ruta at 338-4780 to discuss further and we will make arrangements with the Comunity Centre for tax-deductible donation receipts.

Thank-you in advance for your assistance in building this legacy for our community.
